THE OFFBEATS VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Offbeats Vocal Jazz Ensemble is a high-caliber, 18-member ensemble of men and women. We sing a variety of styles, with charts arranged for four to eight parts. The Offbeats is directed by Seattle jazz vocalist, Kelley Johnson. We are accompanied by a professional rhythm section led by Seattle jazz pianist, John Hansen.

Offbeats is currently auditioning tenors and baritones. For more information, or to set up an audition, contact: Offbeats@seattlegleeclubs.org.

Requirements to join

Requires an audition.General choral experience and experience singing tight harmony are also required. A feel for and appreciation of jazz are helpful.

Where we rehearse

Rehearsals are held Thursdays, 7:15 to 9:30 p.m. in the Glee Tower, at Luna Park ActivSpace, 3400 Harbor Ave SW., just off the West Seattle Freeway.

Dues

Offbeats members pay monthly dues of $50. But because we don't believe the inability to pay should prevent anyone with the requisite skills, talent and desire from becoming a member, an amount based on ability to pay may be negotiated.

Offbeats dues do not apply to vocal jazz workshops or individual or ensemble coaching sessions.

Vocal Jazz Workshop

Seattle Glee Clubs periodically offers vocal jazz workshops for singers with solo performance experience (background in jazz is not required). These workshops are currently on hiatus while they undergo some restructuring. Check back for updates.

Small Vocal Jazz Ensembles

Some of the more experienced Offbeats members enjoy the challenge of singing in small ensembles, accompanied or a cappella. Well-prepared ensembles are included in the vocal jazz workshop performance at Tula's as well as other Offbeats performances. Rehearsal scheduling is up to the individual ensemble members.
